Seven Star Pharmaceutical Services (Seven Star) is a technology-driven Contract Research Organization (CRO) that supports drug development programs. We work closely with our clients to ensure comprehensive solutions for their needs in CMC/solid-state chemistry research, crystallization process development, and preformulation studies and formulation development. In addition to these services we also provide routine analytical testing, CMC consulting, intellectual property support and structure determination from single crystal X-ray diffraction data.

X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD)

XRPD is crucial for analyzing crystalline materials, allowing us to investigate crystallinity, polymorphism, and phase transitions. In addition to pharmaceuticals, this technique is used in materials science, chemicals, and food technology for studying materials and stability under environmental stresses like humidity and temperature.

Thermal Analysis (TGA & DSC)

We offer Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), two vital tools for understanding material stability and thermal transitions. These techniques are critical in pharmaceutical formulation development, but also have broad applications in polymers, food packaging, and chemicals.

TGA measures changes in weight as a function of temperature, ideal for stability testing.
DSC detects thermal transitions such as melting points and glass transitions, essential for ensuring product stability in multiple industries.

Helium Gas Pycnometer

At Seven Star Pharmaceutical Services, we leverage the Micromeritics AccuPyc II 1345 Gas Pycnometer for precise and reliable density measurements of powders, solids, and other materials. This instrument offers industry-leading accuracy in measuring true and skeletal density, essential parameters in material characterization. The AccuPyc II 1345 is designed to provide rapid, non-destructive analysis, making it ideal for a wide range of applications, from pharmaceuticals and chemicals to materials science.

Microscopy and Imaging

Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) and Hot Stage PLM (HS-PLM) are used to study crystal morphology, phase transitions, and particulate contamination. These services are critical in pharmaceuticals, materials science, and food industries.
We also offer melting point determination with video recording, applicable to chemical analysis, pharmaceutical purity, and food ingredient testing.

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

In a DSC experiment, a sample and a reference are subjected to a controlled temperature program. The difference in heat flow between the sample and the reference is recorded as a function of temperature or time. This differential heat flow can be associated with physical and chemical changes in the sample, such as melting, crystallization, glass transitions, thermal stability, and heat capacity. The resulting DSC curve provides valuable information about such physical and chemical changes in the sample.

Spectroscopic Analysis

Our spectroscopic services cover FTIR, Raman, and UV-Vis spectroscopy, enabling precise identification of functional groups, contaminants, and impurities. These techniques are crucial for industries like pharmaceuticals, food, polymers, and chemical engineering.

FTIR and Raman spectroscopy are key for analyzing molecular structure and polymorphs.
UV-Vis spectroscopy helps with concentration and purity measurements.

FT4 Powder Rheometer

pKa and log P/log D Measurements

pKa measurement helps determine a compound's ionization properties, essential for drug formulation but also relevant for environmental science and chemical manufacturing.
log P/log D analysis measures lipophilicity, impacting a compound's solubility and bioavailability. This testing is widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agrochemicals, and food technology.
